Right off the bat this morning, the first student mis-counted the first note of the first étude we played.
ME: Hang on--you don't want to miss your very first note. How long is that note supposed to be?
KID: Three beats.
ME: And how long did you play it?
KID: Two beats.
ME: And why did you do that?
KID: Because I'm stupid!
(We both had a good laugh over that one...)
