- Tony Romo signs a contract extension: Six years, $6.75 million. Now he can relax and keep on winning without distractions. (Well, OK, maybe some distractions, but I don't really care about what celebrities he hangs with as long as he wins.)
- A-Rod opts out of his deal with the Yankees. This is significant here because it frees up $21.3 million that the Rangers would have had to pay the Yankees if he'd seen the deal through to the end.
- The Minnesota Twins' Torii Hunter files for free agency. He has a home in the area, and there have been rumblings about him possibly heading to the Rangers, who now have some extra money freed up.
They really stuck their necks out for this one: A zoo in Boston has named its new baby giraffe "Sox" in honor of the World Series winners.
And now for some bad sports: A Nebraska mom driving some cheerleaders to a high school football game let a car full of boys pull alongside her on the highway so that her daughter could grab a beer from them.
