I vaguely recall a similar reaction of my own when the needle dropped on Song X in my apartment all those years ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5274291.post-84743767922697774712008-03-09T11:44:00.000-05:002008-03-09T11:44:00.000-05:00Eric--I wonder if I've managed to skate around the...Eric--I wonder if I've managed to skate around the fuddy-duddy situation a little bit by ignoring nearly all pop music, period? I can miss a lot of throwaway stuff that way, and I have a good excuse: I'm listening to jazz so I can learn something from it and become a better player myself.

(But no worries, I'll listen to the bands that you cover in your book, and I'm sure I'll find something I like.)

Gary--I didn't like Song X when it first came out, either, but someone who got the 20th anniversary remaster (and didn't like it himself, LOL) gave it to me, and I liked it more on second listening. They put the bonus tracks (which are way more melodic) up front, which was an interesting touch.

When I was program director at KNTU, I was training a new DJ who was very nervous on her first shift. Got the vinyl at Half Price for like 4 or 5 bucks many years ago. I think I paid too much.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5274291.post-54496476534646353052008-03-06T22:11:00.000-06:002008-03-06T22:11:00.000-06:00A big fear I have: being that fuddy-duddy who thin...A big fear I have: being that fuddy-duddy who thinks all modern music is bad. I'm trying to do something about this.Eric Grubbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08237140729566147948noreply@blogger.com
